![]() Tl dr I grew to dislike Smash 4 as a game, but I still have fond memories of it, I still think about how much fun I used to have, and I can't hate the game for that reason Smash will always have a special place in my heart, and all that jazz. I'm kind of over playing Smash in general, I only really play Ultimate when I visit my brother, though I still watch tourneys occasionally and try to keep up with the game in general. I don't really enjoy the game now, and I don't think I would if I went back to play it. It was a great game at the time, but it had its flaws, and playing the game non-stop for two years straight made that flaws grossly apparent. Smash 4 means a lot to me, in terms of the memories it brought my brother and my friends and I. He admitted he wasn't really enjoying the game at that point, he just didn't want to retire while he was on top. He was clearly the best player in our local scene, but he had no interest in labbing or trying to improve - he just enjoyed playing purely on fundamentals and game sense, and when people began to surpass him, he had a reason to stop playing. My brother was in the same boat, though he actually did hate how DLC dominated the meta.Īs an aside, I think he was kind of done with the game because he'd already got what he wanted out of it. I played almost nothing but Smash 4 for a couple of years straight, and eventually I just got tired of it. Not being in a good mental state at the time, increasing disinterest in the direction the meta was going, having other responsibilities that had to take priority, and just general burnout. It wasn't DLC that did it for me: I actually quit just before Bayo became dominant, and Corrin is still one of my favourite characters Cloud was kind of annoying, but not a deal-breaker for me, and my brother played a lot of Rosa so I was used to the matchup. I got bored of Smash 4 at around the same time every else did, maybe earlier. I have such vivid memories of that game, of the hype building up to its release, socialising with like-minded people, going to locals every week out-of-town tournaments with a bunch of us crammed into my brother's car and just having fun.
